As soon as purchase was confirmed as going ahead,we set out to recruit the right tenantsto take on the puband help it become the thriving heart of the community with a buzzing café and community shop.
Tom and Becci Baker took over as tenants onSaturday 1st December 2018, just a couple of months after purchase.
Tom and Becci showed the right aptitude for taking on a community pub and developing the business. They are exceptional people who share our vision of the Exelby Green Dragon being a thriving pubright at the heart of the community. Both had been involved in the licensed trade, but it is their first pub together and we wish them continued success.
Tom and Becci also bought into the idea that the pub should start trading in whatever way was possible with the facilities in hand and with a programme of renovations thatwould see the pub trading in some form whilst works were in progress. Initially trading was just wet sales until February 2019, with a fully refurbished kitchen, food sales commenced. The next big project to support the business was the ability to have a shop and café from April 2019 and then Bed and Breakfast accommodation from October 2019.
